‘John Wick 4’ es una obra cumbre del cine de acción más excesivo: Keanu Reeves lleva al límite a este mítico personaje en una película aún más brutal que sus predecesoras
Nadie esperaba que ‘John Wick’ fuese a convertirse en una de la sagas de acción más importantes de la historia del cine, y es que la carrera de Keanu Reeves no pasaba precisamente por su mejor momento cuando es estrenó la primera entrega allá por 2014. De hecho, la película ni siquiera llegó a estrenarse en los cines españoles, pero eso no impidió que se convirtiera en una indiscutible éxito comercial, con sus ingresos en salas multiplicando por cuatro su coste.
Luego fueron llegando las secuelas, cada una de ellas más caras pero también más exitosas. Eso ha llevado a que ‘John Wick 4’ cuente con un presupuesto de 90 millones de dólares cuando la primera entrega apenas costó 20. Eso también se nota en pantalla, pues estamos ante la película más brutal y ambiciosa de la saga. Eso no quiere decir que sea la mejor, aunque sí que supera con holgura a la tercera entrega.
Una cosa que ha cuidado bastante bien esta franquicia es su mitología. En la primera entrega era un añadido curioso que servía para darle identidad propia, pero es que su importancia no ha dejado de crecer desde ‘John Wick: Pacto de Sangre’, y pronto lo hará aún más con el desarrollo de diferentes spin-offs con los que Lionsgate quiere exprimir a fondo la popularidad de este universo.
Sin embargo, ‘John Wick 4’ se siente como una especie de cierre para la trilogía simbólica iniciada por la segunda entrega. El personaje interpretado por Reeves todavía lidia aquí con las consecuencias de la drástica decisión que tomó al final de esa película y, claro está, los peligros a los que ha de hacer frente siguen creciendo de forma exponencial.
No me olvido de que al principio de ‘John Wick: Capítulo 3 – Parabellum’ era perseguido por una cantidad inagotable de asesinos a sueldo, pero es que en ‘John Wick 4’ han conseguido superar eso con creces, y además sin la necesidad de remarcarlo tanto desde el primer momento. Aquí el guion escrito por Shay Hatten y Michael Finch prefiere apostar por una narrativa que vaya de menos a más, con la particularidad de que ya la primera gran escena de acción resulta impresionante.
